Unit 3 Progress - Week 3

For my front cover I changed the masthead font again to fit more in tone with the magazine. The other one seemed too serious and old-fashioned for a magazine aimed at teenagers; this one is more suitable.

I also changed and moved my main sell line so it will stand out more on the page. I moved it lower on the page, changed the font colour (as well as adding some effects, such as a drop shadow) and increased the font size. This will then make it more obvious that this is the main sell line for the issue and readers will have a better idea of what to expect from the magazine.

I moved around my other sell line and added another inside the shape to make it stand out. This is another feature that will gain the audiences interest and therefore must be highlighted.

For my double page spread I manipulated and improved the image I was going to use. I then added it to my DPS and enlarged it to cover a large proportion of the page. I also made it so my text flowed around the image so they wouldn't interfere with each other. You would be able to read the text and see the image properly.

I also changed the font for my header to make it more bold and stand out more on the page. I then changed the colour to match the red in the models dress so there are more colours on the page. It will make the DPS more vibrant and have a more consistent colour scheme.

I added my breakout box to the page which I created in Photoshop using different brushes to create the 'paint brush' effect. I then added the text over the top.

Since I put my image on the DPS I needed to move my text boxes and change the font size in order for it all to fit effectively on the page. I moved my kicker to the left above my breakout box so it would have its own space so the reader can see it and the rest of the text would fit on the DPS. I have experimented with highlighting the text box in a different colour to make it stand out as well as bringing new layers and components to the page. This is subject to change as I am just testing things out. I like the idea of having this type of effect but it needs to be improved for my final product.

I then also added lines around the borders of the page to bring new layers and effects to the page. These may change as I don't believe they are effective in the state they are in but the idea is a good one. I will continue to change these for my final product.

Unit 3 Progress - Week 2

For my front cover I had to change the masthead once I had uploaded my image.

First I improved the image by using the healing brush tool to get rid of any blemishes on my models skin and to even out her colour. Next I played around with the adjustment layers under 'curves' to enhance the red in the image.

Then I used the levels tools to change the background and make it lighter and more white. This made it look more professional and suitable for my front cover.

I then finished off editing my barcode to fit on the page in the corner without blocking too much of my model.

I then changed the font for masthead as it covered too much of my models head. I am going to try and place the letters behind her head even using this font so nothing is covering my model.

I added some of my sell-lines to my front cover and changed fonts and sizes several times to make sure they are situated on the page correctly.

Unit 3 Progress - Week 1

So far I have begun work on my double page spread in In Design and took my images for my product.

In my double page spread I have created guidelines to place my text boxes in to make sure they will all be along the same level.

I then created text boxes within these guidelines in order to place my article inside it (I made this to make it a similar layout to my analysed magazine - I did the same for my front cover). I made sure to connect the text boxes so the text would automatically flow from one box to the next. I then looked through fonts on the programme and on dafont.com to decide what I wanted the main body of my article to look like. I decided on an already installed font 'American Typewriter' for my article. I then noticed the red box at the end that signalled the text overflowed the space available; I changed the font size to accommodate this.

I then created my title with a downloaded font and used the rotate tool to move my title around. I chose the fixated point and pivoted it around to create this effect.

For my front cover I created my masthead with a downloaded font (inside the margins I created a the start of production).I then found a new font for the line underneath the title which would fit in with the theme of the magazine.

I then decided to create the barcode for my magazine and the number issue etc. for the corner of the cover. This image was cropped and changed so it would blend in with the background and the fonts would be the same to keep consistency. This process is not yet finished but quickly underway.

Since I have now taken my images my next tasks will be to start work on them to enhance them for my magazine front cover and DPS.

These are some examples of the images I have taken. I will need to choose which ones I want to use for my product. However there are some clear good and bad images that I can make distinctions from straight away. This will help this process.

Here are some examples of the images for my double page spread. There were many with shadows behind which I can't use for my product.

I liked the composition of these images, I just needed to change the lighting which I did after critically analysing my images during the photo shoot. My later images were more well lit.

For my front cover I did a different shot with some that weren't taken from the right angle. I wanted a full frontal shot and some were taken slightly to the left.
Example:

I also changed some of the composition later in the shoot which I didn't like and will not be using for my front cover. I asked the model to raise her arms slightly in the image but it did not look natural and the image doesn't look right. I will not be using this for my front cover.

However, my later shots with her original stance look much better. The lighting is right and the shot is from the right angle which makes the image look more professional.
